Rollerskating Party

And for those of you wondering how the rollerskating party went...

I think there were only about 3-4 children who could skate well. The rest clutched the walls and floundered wildly along. Marika didn't cling to the wall, but skated very slowly and gingerly along the inner section. Mika kept trying and trying, but she couldn't find her balance. The poor thing... I couldn't tell you how many times she fell on her butt! She even cried a few times, out of sheer frustration. Still, this morning, the girls both said they wanted to go back and try again.

It was a really nice skating surface, though. While the kids ate their pizza, Daddy Dude and I skated around by ourselves - fast! That was fun! It's funny, though, how rollerskating has become something of a lost art. When I was growing up, EVERYBODY knew how to rollerskate. What happened?

BTW - my rollerblades felt GREAT and the brakes were secure. =) I might have to start zipping around the neighborhood again!

  1. I never tried rollerblades, but I did go to the rink as often as a kid. Glad your kids are so into trying new things.

  2. Was that at the skating rink in GT I went there all the time when I was a kid. Even had a birthday party there when I was a kid. It looks like the girls had a good time.

  3. Yes, that's the rink in GT. The girls are asking for skates to practice with at home, but I'm afraid they'll get all banged up, because there's nothing but the sidewalk to practice on. Maybe it's easier to earn on a less-frictionless surface, though. I used to skate around in our basement for hours - that was fun! I'd totally forgtten all about that. *sigh*

  4. I think they will be fine learning on the sidewalk. That was where I learned and never got to banged up. You have pretty smooth concrete out front.
