Using watercolors instead...

Patterned paper (5&Dime by October Afternoon), cardstock (Bazzill [green], Carta Bella [silver, white]), Tim Holtz walnut stain distress ink, Tim Holtz pewter distress stain, QK die, ink (Memories, Inc.), stamps (Unity Stamp Co.), Kimberly watercolor pencils, Strathmore watercolor paper
[Seize the Birthday Sketch #4]

Maybe this is futile!

I'm trying to avoid buying any copic markers, because: (1) they're pretty expensive; (2) you probably need quite a few to be good and (3) if you don't use them often enough, they'll probably dry up and be useless.

The only problem with trying to NOT buy alcohol markers, is that I have only watercolor pencils to work with - a whoppin' 24 colors right now. The problem was trying to merge too many challenges (CC #48, Seize the Birthday Sketch #4, and FWF for Unity) together - and I ended up missing the blue-green-white challenge (a second submission). I'm just not good enough to figure out how to mix the pencils to match the blue-gray of the papers. So, I apologize for my inexpertise!

Really, I just wanted a chance to play with my new Unity stamps... :) So I feel happy about that!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. It's a very cute card, Miwa! I ended up buying some MEPXY (pronounced Mepsi) alcohol markers at my LSS at clearance price. A few of the store workers said they are very comparable to Copics. I got them for $3 each, so at least half of the cost of Copics. I like them so far, but would like a few more colors. I am just starting with them. I also like the water color pencils for a softer look.

  7. This is very sweet, Miwa! I must admit that the initial expense of Copic Markers is worth the outcome for me. I really like the finished look and they seem to last quite awhile. My LSS will reink my Copic marker for $1. You may want to check it out at a store new you!

    1. I didn't know you could get Copics re-inked! That's a great money-saving idea! Hmmm... I'll have to ask at my LSS! Thanks for the tip!

  8. So cute!! I think any colouring medium would work fine just to have some fun with the stamps. I must admit I played with so many till I tried Copics. Resisted buying that for years, but I found my colouring style works so well with it. Perhaps you can start with a few to see if you like them. Have fun!!

  11. I love this bunny, love that your linking up with FWF, love that you've joined the Unity addiction, and love that you love to color. I blame CC for many things, including my Copic addiction. I got my first two, R81 & R83, when CC sold them as a set. Then I got a gray one (N3, I believe) in a CC Copic grab bag. I've been addicted ever since. I bought some used collections and saved myself considerable $. LMK if you're interested in details. There's also a Copic Kit of the month club for newbies where you're sent three colors that blend each month. Again, LMK if you want specifics.

  16. Miwa, I JUST received my first package of water color pencils and I love them. I am also a fan of Copic but not that great at using them. They are costly, but I have had some of mine for several years and they haven't dried out in the slightest... Enough of that. Your CARD is adorable! Fun, happy and colorful. TFS!

  17. Cute card, and I agree about the copics, seem to time consuming and expensive. I don't think I have the patience to learn how to use them well. I only have a skin color one. I use the Twinking H2o's instead, I love those!

  21. Love your card, watercolors are great, I have tried them although not with such nice results as yours. I agree the Copics are so pricey, I never got into them for that reason.

  22. Your card is adorable! There are so many fun ways to color now. I'm tempted to buy into the Distress markers, love the inks.

  23. I love your colouring! I still haven't bought Copics because of how expensive they are. I did buy a larger set (72) of Prismacolor pencils & I use my ink pads for watercolour paints.
